April at The Living Room: Creating a buzz…

Malaria is the world’s biggest killer of children. It’s also completely preventable.

Since it’s World Malaria Day this month, the team here will be doing our bit to raise awareness of how the humble mosquito net can help prevent this disease.

On Thursday 25th April, we’ll be putting on 14 simultaneous live music events at The Living Room venues right across the UK.

As well as these live performances from sought-after local acts, we’ve created a bespoke ‘Mosquito Mojito’ to help boost funds. £1 from the sale of each cocktail will be donated to the campaign.

Every £7 raised will be used to buy life-saving mosquito nets via the United Nations Foundation’s global Nothing But Nets campaign. This grassroots initiative raises funds to distribute long-lasting, insecticide-treated bed nets to families across Africa, and educate communities on how to use them.

And, keep an eye out for our ‘net-napped’ statues - we’ll also be enlisting the help of everyone from John Lennon to Queen Victoria as we hijack famous statues in our nation’s city centres to raise awareness of the campaign.

We need your shoes!

The Living Room launches The Heel Appeal

This March we're launching a brand new campaign, The Heel Appeal.

We want your old, unwanted or out-grown shoes. Donated shoes will be recycled to raise cash for a variety of local charities. All types and condition of footwear will be welcomed so, whether you have towering stilettos that have never seen the light of day, or much-loved loafers on their last legs, we can give your unwanted shoes a new lease of life!

You can donate your old shoes at any The Living Room, any time before 31st March 2013. We can accept ladies, men's and children's shoes – just look out for our green 'Heel Appeal' collection boxes.

To find out more about the local charities each Living Room is supporting and for more information please visit your local city page.
